THE CHAMELEON
Kameleon-Kamala Pallyweid : Kamala Harris’s Shifting Stance on Israel: Pandering to Anti-Israel Propaganda.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris has repeatedly adjusted her rhetoric on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, seemingly tailoring her responses to appease vocal anti-Israel factions within her party while avoiding firm commitments. Her inconsistent handling of accusations labeling Israel’s defensive actions as “genocide” reveals a pattern of political opportunism, undermining the United States’ steadfast alliance with Israel, a democratic nation defending itself against existential threats. This analysis examines three key moments—September 2021, October 2024, and October 2025—where Harris’s responses to the “genocide” claim expose her chameleon-like approach, prioritizing trends over principle.
September 2021: Praising Anti-Israel Rhetoric as “Your Truth”.
In September 2021, during a visit to George Mason University, Harris encountered an Islamic student identifying as part-Yemeni and part-Iranian who accused Israel of committing “ethnic genocide[sic]” and displacing Palestinians, drawing a flawed parallel to American history. The student criticized U.S. funding for Israel, claiming it diverted resources from domestic needs like healthcare and housing, and argued that Israel’s actions mirrored those of an oppressive regime. Rather than correcting the student’s inflammatory and baseless accusation, Harris praised her, stating, “Your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth, should not be suppressed.” Harris’s response, framing the student’s accusation as a valid “truth,” effectively lent credence to a dangerous narrative that misrepresents Israel’s defensive measures against terrorist threats like Hamas.
Israel, a nation under constant threat from groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, relies on U.S. support to maintain its Iron Dome system, which protects civilians from indiscriminate rocket attacks. The student’s claim ignored this context, as well as Hamas’s documented use of human shields and its explicit goal of destroying Israel. By failing to challenge the “genocide” label and instead endorsing the student’s perspective, Harris signaled a troubling willingness to entertain anti-Israel propaganda for political gain. Her remarks came amid a contentious congressional debate over Iron Dome funding, which passed overwhelmingly (420-9), underscoring broad bipartisan recognition of Israel’s security needs.
October 2024: Backtracking After a Heckler’s Challenge.
Fast forward to October 2024, Harris faced a heckler at a campaign event at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who pressed her on the “genocide” accusation. Flustered and unable to defuse the situation effectively, Harris later relied on her campaign to issue a clarification, stating she does not believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This incident highlighted her struggle to navigate the growing anti-Israel sentiment within the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. The clarification was necessary to reassure pro-Israel supporters, but it rang hollow given her earlier reluctance to directly refute the heckler’s claim. Israel’s military operations in Gaza, often mischaracterized by critics, are a response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, which killed over 1,200 Israelis and took hundreds hostage. Harris’s delayed response and dependence on her campaign to clean up the mess suggest a lack of conviction, as she attempted to placate both sides without taking a firm stand.
October 2025: Dodging Accountability on MSNBC.
By October 2025, Harris’s pattern of equivocation continued. When pressed by MSNBC’s Eugene Daniels about some Democrats’ use of the “genocide” label to describe Israel’s actions, Harris deflected, stating, “It is a term of law that a court will decide.” This carefully crafted response avoided directly endorsing or rejecting the accusation, reflecting her ongoing effort to balance appeasing anti-Israel progressives while not alienating pro-Israel voters. Her discomfort was evident when she grudgingly acknowledged the Trump administration’s success in securing the release of the last living hostages from Hamas’s October 7 attack, a diplomatic achievement that underscored Israel’s need for international support against terrorist groups. Harris’s vague reference to Gaza being “treated with such brutality of force” ignored the reality of Hamas’s tactics, including embedding military infrastructure in civilian areas, which complicates Israel’s efforts to minimize civilian harm while defending its citizens.
A Pattern of Political Expediency.
Harris’s responses over these four years reveal a troubling trend: she adjusts her stance based on the audience and political climate, rather than grounding her position in the facts of Israel’s existential struggle. The “genocide” accusation is a legally and factually baseless charge, refuted by the International Court of Justice’s preliminary rulings and the absence of evidence meeting the legal threshold for genocide under international law. Israel’s actions in Gaza are driven by the need to neutralize Hamas, a terrorist organization designated by the U.S. and EU, which uses civilian infrastructure to launch attacks. Harris’s reluctance to unequivocally defend Israel’s right to self-defense risks emboldening anti-Israel narratives and weakening a critical U.S. ally.
Her praise for a student’s “truth” in 2021, her campaign’s damage control in 2024, and her evasive legalism in 2025 demonstrate a lack of principled leadership. As Iran-backed groups like Hamas and Hezbollah continue to threaten Israel, the U.S. must stand firmly with its ally, not amplify divisive rhetoric for political gain. Harris’s chameleon-like shifts undermine trust in her ability to navigate this complex issue, leaving both supporters and critics questioning where she truly stands.
So which and whose "truth" --borrowing her pandering answer in 2021-- is it going to be tomorrow?
One thing is clearly true. You truly are not truthful.
