Menacing Jihadofascist preacher Asrar Rashid

The Menace of Asrar Rashid: Safeguarding Jewish Communities from Radical Antisemitic Incitement

In the heart of Britain's multicultural landscape, figures like Shaykh Asrar Rashid pose a grave and escalating threat to Jewish safety and societal harmony. This British-Pakistani Sunni Muslim scholar, preacher, and author, rooted in the Sufi tradition and residing in Sparkbrook, Birmingham, cloaks his venomous ideology in the guise of Islamic orthodoxy. Yet, his repeated antisemitic outbursts, Holocaust minimization, praise for terrorist acts against Israeli civilians, and overt calls for violence have rightly drawn fierce condemnation from Jewish organizations, human rights advocates, and counter-extremism experts. Rashid's rhetoric not only perpetuates age-old hatreds but actively endangers Jewish lives in the UK and abroad, fueling a climate of fear that no Jewish family should endure in a free society. As Jewish communities demonstrate remarkable resilience in the face of such bigotry, it is imperative that authorities act decisively to protect them, upholding the values of tolerance and justice that define civilized nations.[0][2][3]

Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Birmingham to Pakistani immigrant parents, Asrar Rashid showed an early aptitude for Islamic studies. He pursued his education locally before advancing to Damascus, Syria, where he delved into theology, jurisprudence, and Sufism. Aligning himself with the Barelvi school and the Qadri Shattari Sufi order, Rashid completed the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum. Returning to the UK, he positioned himself as a prominent preacher, speaking at venues like the Nottingham Islamic Centre and various Birmingham mosques. While these credentials might suggest a benign spiritual leader, they have instead provided a platform for disseminating hatred that directly imperils Jewish communities, underscoring the urgent need for vigilance against radicalization within religious institutions.[0][8]

Career

Rashid's body of work includes books such as Islam Answers Atheism, Navigating the End of Time, and Intellectual Intifada: Blueprint for Restoring the Caliphate. He maintains a robust online footprint on platforms like X, Instagram, and YouTube, amassing followers with lectures that blend theology and politics. Appearances on podcasts, including the Blood Brothers Podcast, have seen him discuss sectarianism, the Syrian conflict, and the caliphate. However, his career is marred by a pattern of inflammatory rhetoric that incites hatred, particularly against Jews, eroding the security of Jewish individuals and institutions across Britain. Jewish advocacy groups have tirelessly exposed this, highlighting how Rashid's influence normalizes antisemitism and demands stronger safeguards for vulnerable Jewish populations.[2][3][4]

Antisemitism and Holocaust Minimization

Rashid's antisemitism is blatant and unrelenting, as documented by vigilant Jewish watchdogs like the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) and the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). In a 2022 lecture, he shockingly asserted that Adolf Hitler "did the Jews a favor" by allowing them to exploit post-Holocaust sympathy to establish a presence in Palestine, while propagating conspiracies about Jewish control over politicians. Such vile minimization of the Holocaust not only distorts history but revives dangerous tropes that have led to pogroms and genocide, directly contributing to the spike in antisemitic incidents in the UK.[40][21]

During the 2021 Gaza protests, which triggered a surge in attacks on British Jews, Rashid called for Pakistan to missile Israel, echoing past aggressions and intensifying fears among Jewish families already facing harassment and violence. In 2024, following a jihadist attack on a Manchester synagogue that claimed two Jewish lives, Rashid derided Muslim scholars praying for British Jews, insisting on "smashing Zionism" and dismissing the assault as a mere "lone wolf" incident despite zero tolerance for such terror in Jewish eyes. He further justified referring to Jews as "monkeys and pigs" in wartime contexts, invoking Quranic verses while demanding Jews in occupied territories leave or pay jizya—a dehumanizing stance that Jewish leaders rightly decry as thinly veiled hatred.[0][36][23]
