Yuval Abraham: Staged IDF Provocateur Turned Oscar-Winning Anti-Israel Propagandist – A Profile
Yuval Abraham: A Profile.
Yuval Abraham is an Israeli journalist, filmmaker, and Arabic-Hebrew translator born in 1995 in Jerusalem. Coming from a family with Holocaust survivor roots, he has focused his career on reporting critically on Israeli policies in the West Bank, particularly regarding settlements, home demolitions, and military operations in areas such as Masafer Yatta (Firing Zone 918).
Abraham rose to international attention as one of the co-directors of the 2024 propaganda "documentary" 'No Other Land*l' (alongside Palestinian-Arab filmmaker Basel Adra, Palestinian-Arab director Hamdan Ballal, and Israeli cinematographer Rachel Szor). The film presents the situation in Masafer Yatta as a "story" of Palestinian resistance against IDF home demolitions for a military training area, framing events through the lens of alleged "settler violence and IDF..." It won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 97th Academy Awards in March 2025, triggering widespread condemnation in Israel.
Oscar Win Sparks Uproar in Israel.
Israelis, by in large, viewed the Oscar victory as a painful example of distorted propaganda that ignores Israel's legitimate security needs in a closed military firing zone, the history of illegal Palestinian construction there, and the broader context of Palestinian terrorism and rejection of peace. Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar called the win a "sad moment for cinema" and an act of "sabotage" against Israel, especially so soon after the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre—the worst atrocity against Jews since the Holocaust. Zohar urged Israeli cinemas and public institutions not to screen the film, labeling it anti-Israel propaganda that harms the country’s image during wartime.
At the Oscars red carpet, the noticeable absence of yellow hostage pins (symbolizing Israelis still held by Hamas) — including on Israeli actress Gal Gadot who presented an award — added to the frustration among many Israelis.
Controversial Behavior and Staged Provocations.
Critics point out that 'No Other Land' misrepresents reality. The Mount Hebron Regional Council and the Regavim movement released never-before-seen IDF bodycam footage showing Yuval Abraham and Basel Adra, together with other far-left activists, harassing and provoking IDF soldiers in the area. In the video, Abraham is seen screaming at the troops, then falsely accusing them of sexual harassment, and physically pushing them — actions the council described as a deliberate, staged provocation rather than genuine documentation of "IDF cruelty[sic]."
Minister Miki Zohar reacted sharply, stating that the Oscar winners “should be ashamed that their title was achieved by abusing IDF soldiers who fight to defend the country.” Journalist Ran Boker also highlighted the manipulative nature of the scene, noting it did not appear in the film itself.
Further controversy erupted in March 2025 when co-director Hamdan Ballal was arrested. Abraham claimed Ballal was attacked by Jews and then detained by the IDF. However, the IDF clarified that Ballal was arrested on suspicion of throwing rocks at IDF troops and civilians following violent clashes. Abraham’s portrayal of the incident was widely criticized in Israel as misleading.
Additionally, Abraham’s acceptance speech at the Berlinale Film Festival was condemned by Israel’s Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan) as crossing into anti-Semitic territory by endangering Jewish lives through extreme framing of Israel.
Perspective.
Yuval Abraham represents a problematic trend of self-proclaimed Israeli “human rights” activists and journalists who consistently side against their own country. Instead of exposing the real threats Israel faces — Hamas terrorism, Arab Palestinian incitement, and repeated attacks on soldiers and civilians — Abraham’s work disproportionately blames Israel while whitewashing or omitting critical context, such as the legal status of Firing Zone 918 and the security imperatives driving IDF actions.
His involvement in staged confrontations for cinematic effect, combined with the one-sided narrative of *No Other Land*, is seen as contributing to international delegitimization of Israel at a time when the Jewish state is fighting for its survival. While Abraham occasionally acknowledges the October 7 atrocities in speeches, the overall impact of his platform strengthens Israel’s enemies and undermines the morale of the IDF and Israeli society.
Abraham’s efforts, packaged in the language of “coexistence” and “friendship across divides,” ultimately serve to distort the truth and fuel anti-Israel sentiment globally.
Unsurprising.
Weeks after B'tselem/PHR-I (with an earlier history of "apartheid" propaganda) published their "genocide" lie propaganda, Yuval Abraham via The Guardian published The “83% civilian death toll” hoax, which comes from counting only known militants and assuming the rest are civilians, which they say is methodologically invalid and inflates the number.

Fake "experts" continue to throw out statistics in an attempt to portray the Gaza was as unusually deadly. Of course war is always horrible, but Gaza is hardly remarkable, and even wars going on right now are far more deadly.
